Intelligence – Victoria Svensson (Sweden) But she had the ability to change a game and she always wanted to do that in the big games. She couldn’t stay at that level for 90 minutes. The thing with her - and she knows this - is she wasn’t persistent in her mentality. ![]() She didn’t always have the precision with her final ball, but if she’d had that, she would have been the best in the world. When she really wanted to play - because sometimes she didn’t want to - and she was having fun, she was amazing. You could put the ball behind the defence and, even if the defender had a head start, she knew she would win more races than she would lose. In Sweden, we have some great players who are fast, but there is nobody faster than Elodie. In the 2009 Euros against Russia, I remember she scored a nice goal from 20 yards, but most importantly, she showed us the way in that game. People don’t always see that because she doesn’t score lots of goals or dribble past players. I have to pick Caroline because she was, and still is, a player that will never give up. ![]() I had to use my speed and try to surprise her if I ever played against her at international level, but she reads the game so well, so it was always a challenge. If it was a clean duel, it was impossible. I only won headers once in a while in training against her. But I saw her working on it, she was so persistent and she said to herself, “I can be the best in the world, so I need to work on this.” A year or two later she wasn’t just a good defender, but she was scoring goals as well. She was so tall, so powerful and she had so much potential, but her heading wasn’t that strong at the beginning. I came to Lyon in 2008 and Wendie was 18 and even then you could see was going to be a good player. We asked Lyon and Sweden legend Lotta Schelin to construct her perfect footballer from those she’s played with and against during her illustrious career…
